Protecting the Beauty of June Birthstones
Pearl, moonstone, and alexandrite—requires special attention, as each gem differs in durability.
Pearls, the traditional June birthstone, require gentle care due to their softness (Mohs 2.5–3). After each wear, they should be wiped with a soft, damp cloth and stored in a cloth-lined pouch, away from plastics and chemical exposure such as perfumes or hairspray.
Moonstone (Mohs 6–6.5) should be cleaned with warm water, mild soap, and a soft brush, while avoiding ultrasonic or steam cleaning.
Alexandrite (Mohs 8.5), being more durable, can be safely cleaned with mild soap or professional ultrasonic methods and is suitable for daily wear. As a general rule, all June birthstone jewelry should be removed before swimming or physical activity, stored separately to prevent scratching, and fully dried before storage.
